Celebrity and prolific Twitterer Donald Trump struggled to break 50% early on the in the race, but he started winning a majority of the vote in more counties as his opponents dropped out one by one after Super Tuesday. Ohio Gov. John Kasich stayed in the race until the very end, becoming the last person to drop out of the contest after Indiana. Though he was the last man standing, he failed to win a significant share of the vote outside of Ohio. He only won six counties outside of his home state—six in Vermont, two in Michigan, and one in New York (Manhattan)—though none with more than 50% of the vote.

Counties Where Marco Rubio Received
≥ 50% of the Vote in the Primaries

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio was seen early on as a serious contender for the nomination, but after a disastrous debate performance in New Hampshire, followed by a long string of second- and third-place finishes, he left the race only having won Minnesota, Puerto Rico, Washington D.C., and a handful of counties around the country. Among the counties Rubio won, he only secured a majority of the vote in three of them—63% in Miami-Dade County, and a majority of voters at the Wyoming Convention from Natronia and Albany Counties.
